Treatment Pathways

A diagnosis of AL amyloidosis is frightening. But treatment today is genuinely different from what it was even five years ago and for many people, it works.

What Treatment Is Trying to Do

The goal isn't just to manage symptoms. It is to stop the source. That means targeting the abnormal plasma cells producing amyloid proteins, reducing their numbers as close to zero as possible, and giving your organs the space to recover. Every treatment plan is different. What works for one person may not be right for another. Your hematologist will guide you through what makes sense for you.

Your Treatment Options

Most people with AL amyloidosis will receive a combination of treatments. Here's an honest overview of what's currently available.

Chemotherapy

Modern chemotherapy for AL amyloidosis is very different from what most people imagine. Daratumumab-based combinations work by targeting the plasma cells at the root of the problem. Many patients tolerate it well and response rates have improved dramatically in recent years.

Stem Cell Transplant

For patients who are well enough to handle it, a stem cell transplant can achieve deep, lasting remission. It is not right for everyone but for those who qualify, it can be genuinely life-changing. Your team will assess whether it is an option for you.

Targeted Agents

Newer drugs like Venetoclax target specific genetic profiles with stronger response rates. For relapsed or refractory patients, IMMX Biopharma's NXC-201 CAR-T therapy is showing results that are redefining what is possible.

Organ Support

Alongside treatment aimed at the disease itself, managing affected organs is just as important. This might mean diuretics for the heart, support for the kidneys, or help managing pain and neuropathy. You should not have to just live with the symptoms.

How Will We Know If It’s Working?

Your care team will track key markers throughout treatment including free light chains, NT-proBNP, troponin, and organ function tests. These tell the story of how your body is responding. Ask your team to explain what your numbers mean at each stage. You deserve to understand what's happening inside your own body.
